About this Virginia Gardener

Hi! I am Michelle. I grew up in a garden near the Chesapeake Bay. Since then, I’ve lived all around this great state. After tending plots on the coast, and in the Piedmont, I am now happily living in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I began this blog with the idea of helping newcomers learn the ropes. Additionally, I want to help seasoned and travelling gardeners find out about noteworthy destinations. We’re so lucky to have many different growing zones, altitudes, soil types, historical sites, and landscapes in Virginia!

I’ve worked as a farmers market manager, a flower farmer, an estate gardener, a nursery worker, a native plant propagator, and now, I grow for pleasure and teach a university class called Garden Party (really)!

My hope is this site will be a resource for you and others in and outside of the Commonwealth. I’ll collaborate with parks, suppliers, seed and plant companies, growers, writers, and other educators to fulfill that goal. As long as my hands are in the dirt and green things surround me, it will be a great time.

I hope you will join me!
