Hi! About me: I am Michelle. I grew up in a garden near the Chesapeake Bay. Since then, I’ve lived all around this great state. After tending plots on the coast, and in the Piedmont, I am now living in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I am happy to tell you that no matter where you live in this great state, Virginia is for gardeners
I began this blog with the idea of helping new Virginian gardeners learn the ropes. Additionally, I want to help seasoned and travelling gardeners find out about noteworthy destinations. We’re so lucky to have many different growing zones, altitudes, soil types, historical sites, and landscapes in Virginia!
My initial interest in gardening began when I lived 45 minutes from the nearest grocery store, and had three small children. I figured it would be easier to GROW our food than to have to make the 1.5 hour (plus shopping) trek every week to the grocery store with the tots in tow. I was not wrong.
Since then, I’ve worked as a farmers market manager, a flower farmer, an estate gardener, a nursery worker, a native plant propagator, and now, I grow for pleasure and teach a university class called Garden Party (really)!
My hope is this site will be a resource for you and others in and outside of the Commonwealth. I’ll collaborate with garden destinations, suppliers, seed and plant companies, growers, writers, and other educators to fulfill that goal. As long as my hands are in the dirt and green things surround me, it will be a great time.
I hope you will join me!
