Welcome

A Few Words About Us

About Me:

My name is Michelle and I’ve lived and gardened in Virginia for much of my life.

When I was quite young, my mother had a huge garden in Norfolk near Chesapeake Bay that helped supply neighbors and my grandmother’s restaurant with vegetables.

When I became a young mother myself, I wanted to learn more.

Having grown mostly herbs in containers while in school in Richmond, I took the Master Gardener course in Virginia Beach, and worked at several organic farms on the coast. A few years later, in Scottsville, I helped start and manage a Farmers market, and owned a flower farm there for several years.

These days, I garden for myself and private clients, and teach a permaculture-based gardening class at the University of Virginia.

I love living and gardening in Virginia, a state that is bordered by the mountains and the sea, and where one can grow or harvest things every month of the year!
